Local Issues

One of my top priorities since entering Congress has been facilitating the transfer of Ontario International Airport (ONT) from the city of Los Angeles to the Ontario International Airport Authority. I believe that returning the airport to local control will attract more travelers and businesses to the area and spur economic development in the Inland Empire. The Ontario International Airport is strategically located at the center of an important freight movement system that attracts and supports economic activity throughout the region. Not only is the airport an important hub for our region's manufactured and agricultural goods, Ontario Airport provides a convenient option for local businesses to expand their operations to reach other markets. In order to move the process of returning the airport to local control forward, I worked with my Democratic and Republican colleagues in Congress to pass legislation that was needed to implement the agreement between ONT and LAX.

Now that our community has local control of Ontario Airport, I believe we need to make it easier for people to access it, which is why I strongly support the completion of the Gold Line Foothill extension to Ontario Airport. Not only will this lead to increased access and use of Ontario Airport, it will also attract investment in the surrounding communities, make our freeways and roads less congested, and reduce air pollution.

Una de mis principales prioridades desde que ingresé al Congreso ha sido facilitar la transferencia del Aeropuerto Internacional de Ontario (ONT) desde la ciudad de Los Ángeles a la Autoridad del Aeropuerto Internacional de Ontario. Creo que devolver el aeropuerto al control local atraerá a más viajeros y empresas al área y estimulará el desarrollo económico en el Inland Empire. El Aeropuerto Internacional de Ontario está estratégicamente ubicado en el centro de un importante sistema de movimiento de carga que atrae y apoya la actividad económica en toda la región. El aeropuerto no solo es un centro importante para los productos agrícolas y manufacturados de nuestra región, el aeropuerto de Ontario ofrece una opción conveniente para que las empresas locales amplíen sus operaciones para llegar a otros mercados. Para hacer avanzar el proceso de devolver el aeropuerto al control local, trabajé con mis colegas demócratas y republicanos en el Congreso para aprobar la legislación necesaria para implementar el acuerdo entre ONT y LAX.

Ahora que nuestra comunidad tiene el control local del aeropuerto de Ontario, creo que debemos facilitar el acceso de las personas a él, por lo que apoyo firmemente la finalización de la extensión Gold Line Foothill hasta el aeropuerto de Ontario. Esto no solo conducirá a un mayor acceso y uso del Aeropuerto de Ontario, sino que también atraerá inversiones en las comunidades alrededor, hará que nuestras autopistas y carreteras estén menos congestionadas y reducirá la contaminación del aire.
